Role overview
We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer (Java Developer) to design, develop, and maintain Java applications and backend services. The role involves building event-driven data pipelines, backend APIs for aggregated metrics and dashboards, and working with time-series and analytical data stores for high-cardinality telemetry data.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain Java applications.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze, design, and develop new features.
- Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code.
- Ensure code is properly tested and reviewed.
- Troubleshoot and debug Java applications.
- Keep up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in Java development.
- Participate in code and design reviews.
- Contribute to the development of technical documentation.
- Design or consume event-driven data pipelines using brokers such as Kafka, including aggregation, downsampling, and historical trend analysis.
- Build backend APIs/services that provide aggregated metrics for dashboards using REST or GraphQL.
- Work with time-series and analytical data stores, including partitioning, retention, and query optimization for high-cardinality telemetry data.
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in Java development.
- Experience with Java (minimum Java 8) technologies such as Spring, Spring Boot, JPA, and Maven.
- Strong understanding of software development principles and design patterns.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
- Experience with database technologies such as Redis and MongoDB.
- Hands-on experience with VictoriaMetrics (preferred) or similar time-series databases.
- Understanding of partitioning, retention, and query optimization for high-cardinality telemetry data.
- Experience designing or consuming event-driven data pipelines using brokers such as Kafka, including aggregation, downsampling, and historical trend analysis.
- Experience building backend APIs/services that provide aggregated metrics for dashboards using REST or GraphQL.
- Grafana experience is preferred, particularly for operational and IoT/KPI dashboards.
Good to Have
- Experience with front-end web development technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Angular.
- Experience with cloud-based technologies such as AWS.
- Experience with Java 17 and 21.
